China Protests US Penalties on Its Companies for Russia Connections

beijing

China has expressed strong opposition to the United States’ decision to sanction Chinese companies due to their connections with Russia, according to an official statement from the Chinese commerce ministry on Monday. The ministry emphasized China’s commitment to vigorously defending the legitimate rights and interests of its enterprises against these sanctions.

The stance comes in response to the Biden administration’s recent announcement of new trade restrictions targeting a total of 93 entities across various countries, including Russia, China, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan, India, and South Korea. These sanctions, which were unveiled on the eve of the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, are aimed at entities that are believed to be supporting Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.

Under these new restrictions, the US will essentially prohibit any shipments to the listed entities, which include eight Chinese companies, 63 Russian firms, 16 Turkish entities, and four from the UAE. The Chinese government, through its commerce ministry, has reiterated its opposition to these measures and has pledged to take necessary actions to protect the interests of its affected businesses.
