No Sign of Illicit Semiconductor Shipments Through Malaysia, Official States

Malaysia has not uncovered any evidence of illegal semiconductor shipments passing through the country, despite recent concerns over global smuggling networks, according to a government statement on Monday.

Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said authorities are closely monitoring the situation but have not identified any verified cases of illicit chip smuggling involving Malaysian ports or logistics routes.

“We take these allegations seriously, but at this point, there is no concrete evidence indicating that Malaysia has been used as a transshipment point for unauthorized semiconductor exports,” Zafrul told reporters. “We are cooperating with international partners to ensure full compliance with export controls and supply chain integrity.”

The remarks follow reports from U.S. officials and media outlets about possible diversion of advanced semiconductors to sanctioned destinations via third countries in Southeast Asia. The global chip supply chain has come under heightened scrutiny as Western governments tighten export controls on technology with military or dual-use applications.

Malaysia is a key player in the global semiconductor industry, serving as a major hub for chip assembly, testing, and packaging. The country has pledged to uphold international trade rules and maintain transparency in its high-tech manufacturing sector.

Zafrul added that Malaysian authorities are prepared to investigate any credible leads and will strengthen oversight mechanisms if necessary.
