Scheduled for April 6, 2024, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg will host its prestigious Festive Plenary Session at the University’s Grand Hall, Max-Reinhard-Platz, beginning at 11:30 AM with an opening ceremony led by State Parliament President, Dr. Brigitta Pallauf. This annual event is a celebration that marks the induction of new academy members.

Highlighting this year’s session is the presentation of the Paul Crutzen Medal to Professor Dr. Emmanuelle Charpentier, a Nobel Laureate in Chemistry for 2020, and a celebrated member of the Academy. The medal is sponsored by Ing. Mag.Dr.h.c. Ulrich Kubinger, founder of VTA Austria GmbH, who will personally award it to Professor Charpentier. In her keynote speech, Professor Charpentier will explore the revolutionary impact of microbiology on life sciences, focusing on CRISPR gene editing.

The 2024 Festive Plenary Days will also feature the Salzburg Tolerance Talks on April 5, centered around dialogue and global fraternity, and a STEMAC workshop at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Salzburg. The workshop will delve into the intersection of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with art and culture, under the leadership of Professor Dr. Ioannis Liritzis.

The European Academy of Sciences and Arts, which was founded in 1990 and boasts about 2000 members, including 37 Nobel laureates, strives to address significant scientific and ethical issues.
